Although the area is often belittled in more fashionable climbing circles, the Lower Wye Valley and Symonds Yat guides remain obstinately in the top four or five slots of the CC quarterly sales charts, and numbers visiting the crags grow inexorably. The superb settings are obviously one attraction . The wide selection of climbs in the grades people want to climb is another. Less obvious at first, but soon apparent, is the ease with which the area is reached. Situated only a few miles from the m4/5 interchange, the Lower Wye crags, especially, are quicker and simpler to get to from , say, London, Southampton, Birmingham and beyond than most others in the South West or South Wales.
